Copyrights and permissions

The Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies, as publisher of the Journal of Jewish Studies, holds exclusive copyright whereby no part of this publication may be reproduced, translated, stored in a retrieval system, or transmitted in any form or by any means, electronic, mechanical, photocopying, recording or otherwise, without prior written permission of the publisher, except for the purpose of research or private study, or criticism or review.

PDF copies of published material may not be deposited by authors on personal or institutional websites, aggregated institutional repositories, or academic networks such as Academia.edu, Google Scholar, or Research Gate, at any time.

In exchange for the Copyright Transfer Agreement, authors benefit from a wide range of services including peer review, copy-editing, typesetting and designing, online and print publication, open access options, secure archiving, and global marketing to ensure the furthest reach. Articles and reviews are digitally labelled with DOI and ORCID to maximise networking, and citation and other impact metrics are regularly monitored by the editorial team. Author’s copyright is fully protected by the publisher.

The Journal of Jewish Studies operates 'Gold' and 'Green' Open Access policies.

Gold Open Access means that articles are made freely available online from the Journal's website immediately upon publication, and are clearly marked so on the website. Gold Open Access is available to authors in exchange for an article processing charge (APC). The fee is £1750.00/$2800.00 per article. Authors are required to sign a Creative Common licence CC BY (or other on request) as part of an agreement between publisher and author to share the copyright. Under this licence, third parties are allowed to download the file directly and only from the publisher's website.

Green Open Access will only be granted to those authors who can demonstrate that they need it for compliance with their research funders. Authors are required to choose type and abide by a Creative Common licence CC BY (or other on request) as part of an agreement between publisher and author to share the copyright. Green Open Access allows authors to display their author-accepted-manuscript, which means material that has been accepted, reviewed and revised but not copy-edited or typeset, on their personal and institutional websites only, and only after publication. There is no embargo period. Author-accepted-manuscript on display must be clearly marked: "This is an author-accepted-manuscript of an article published by the Journal of Jewish Studies on (date), available from (link or article DOI), copyrights according to CC BY (chosen type) licence."
